The Project
The Lac Trio was formed in Rotterdam in 2022 through the meeting of tenor saxophonist Andrea Leone, guitarist Leonardo Franceschini, and drummer Carlo Longo. From the very beginning, the trio has explored a repertoire that ranges from original compositions to reworkings of pieces from various musical contexts. Under the guidance of coaches such as Stefan Lievestro, Tineke Postma, and Marc Van Roon, the group has refined its language, building a unique identity based on the continuous alternation between rhythmic intensity and evocative atmospheres.
Over the years, the trio has performed at numerous festivals and clubs across the Netherlands, culminating in 2024 with the recording of their first album at Wisseloord Studios, in collaboration with musician Hanna Marieke. The album will be released in early 2025 by the AUTrecords label.
The Music
Their music is characterized by a strong improvisational spirit and unconventional soundscapes, inspired by contemporary jazz formations like The Bad Plus and the Paul Motian Trio. The repertoire spans arrangements of classical composers such as F. Mompou and C. Debussy, as well as original pieces by the trio, incorporating moments of free improvisation with the aim of creating “sound clouds” that give the listener a sense of suspension and lightness. In future projects, the trio aims to explore interdisciplinary collaborations, intertwining music with visual arts and spoken word performances.
